Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Calvary Chapel High Country based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical truths.
God
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
“…There is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me.” Isaiah 45:21
Revelation
God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the bodily image of the invisible God.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” John 1:1-3
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Godhead lives in bodily form.” Colossians 2:9.
Mankind
God made man in His image. Man had fellowship with God in the garden and walked with Him on earth. Adam and Eve chose not to obey God which caused mankind to fall out of fellowship with Him.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Salvation
Jesus Christ came to reconcile us to God. He was without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all those who believe in Him.
“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
The Church
The Church is the visible body of Christ on earth, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” Acts 20:28
The Holy Spirit
Jesus promised to not leave us as orphans and He would send us a comforter.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” John 14:16-21
“If you live according to the flesh you die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.” Romans 8:13
Resurrection
Jesus Christ will return one day to judge both the living and the dead and to establish His kingdom upon earth. The Bible tells us He is the first fruits of the resurrection.
“For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.” 1 Corinthians 21-23
“… I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
